YUKARI
"I started playing
the piano when I was in kindergarten. The kindergarten I went
to had Yamaha Music School lessons so I started practicing the piano
there. Their method was based on Eurythmics.
I continued the
Yamaha Music School lessons for two (2) years. I was so interested
in music so I continued to practice playing the piano when I in
elementary school.
Actually, I hated
piano practice... but continued it everyday anyway, because my mother
forced me to. But I liked to play accompaniment on the piano
in music class during my elementary school, so for several times,
I volunteered to do that.
Even during
the high school years, I didn’t like piano practice, but I liked music
(itself), so I decided to go to a music college and practiced the piano
very hard everyday. (But I have to admit that part of the
reason comes from the fact I was frightened of my then piano teacher.)
Before entering the
music college, I had only played solo, but at college, I started to
enjoy playing in an ensemble. So I played accompaniments for other
people’s exams while neglecting mine. (At one time, I played for nine
people’s exams.) So even today, playing the piano means to me playing
an accompaniment, not a solo.
Other
interests besides playing the piano? Yes,
swimming!
I can swim long distance.
What genres of
music do I usually listen to?
I mainly listen to
classical music. I like orchestral and wind music rather than piano
music. I also listen to jazz occasionally.
What do I do
for a living?
Piano accompaniment
at concerts; selling electronic pianos at a musical instrument store.
My dreams?
Just simple.... I want to have a house of my own and hold piano
classes there!
What is music
to me? It may sound a cliché, but music is something that I can’t
live without! Since I started playing the piano around the age
four, practicing the piano everyday become a habit, though I hated it.
It was only when I had a high fever and on New Year’s Day that I didn’t
practice the
piano. It’s almost like eating and sleeping. If I don’t have music
(around me), I won’t be in good condition.
How did I end
up taking part in this project?
I heard about it
from Sorasubaru and became interested in doing new things and
challenging myself in a field that I hadn’t experienced yet.
What does this
project mean to me?
It’s not simply
reading the scores and playing the songs. I need to think by myself and
add something extra (to the songs). So this project gives me a lot
of learning experiences.
What am I good
at besides making music?
Hmm… being able to
sleep endlessly.
What did I
study at college? And what was the theme of my graduation thesis?
I learned
mainly solo piano. While at school, I became interested in
French classical music, so I played “The Tomb of Couperin”
by the French composer, Ravel, for my graduation performance."
